Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre Fellowship Program 2010, ISEAS, Singapore

The Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies
(ISEAS) in Singapore , which pursues research on historical interactions
among Asian societies and civilizations, is accepting applications from
scholars who wish to undertake research and writing in the area of
intra-Asian historical interactions during 2010. The areas of particular
interest to the Centre are detailed on the NSC website:

Preference will be given to scholars who have com pleted their Ph.D. degree
within the last ten years. The fellowship will be for a period of up to six months and can be com menced any time between April and December 2010.

While in residence in Singapore , the fellow is expected to com plete a paper
on the proposed topic, organize or contribute to a workshop, and give a
public lecture at ISEAS. The fellowships include a monthly (all-inclusive)
stipend of SGD $6,000, and a one-off payment of SGD $1500 to cover research
costs. In addition, a round-trip economy airfare between the home country of
the researcher and Singapore will be provided.

Applicants should include with their applications a cover letter, a full CV,
two letters of reference, and a research proposal of approximately five
pages (double spaced). The proposal should discuss the issue to be
examined, a review of the relevant literature, plans for any fieldwork, and
project time frame. The preferred period for the fellowship should also be
advised.

Scholarship Graduate Program in Materials Science

Master in Materials Science Exploiting Large Scale Facilities.

Mamaself is a 2 year full time Master aiming to promote the scientific collaboration between Universities, Large scale facilities and Industry.
This Master is the result of the collaboration between four Universities: University Rennes 1, ( France ), University of Torino , ( Italy ), Technical University and the Ludwig Maximilians University München ( Germany ). The Master degree will be delivered by two or three out of the four universities, so the students will receive a double Master degree in Materials Science.
Each student will spend one year in a first hosting institution, the first semester of the second Master year at a second university and the last semester at a university or Large scale Faclities or at a partner institution in Japan , Switzerland or India .

Grants for Non-European students
For each academic year the consortium of universities selects non-European students who will receive a grant. Each non-European student will receive a grant of 22.000 euros per year. Deadline is for 2010-2012 : 19 .01.2010. Non EU students who spent a year in Europe before applying must applicate before 21 May 2010.

Grants for European students
In the framework of the Erasmus Mundus 2 programme, European students can apply for an EM fellowship of 12.000€. This grant amount includes the mobility grant for a period at one of the non EU partner institutions in Japan , Switzerland or India during the second semester of the second Master year. The application deadline is : 21 May 2010.

Admission
Students must have 180 ECTS (or equivalent) in Material Science or related disciplines (Chemistry, Physics, Geoscience,…) good academic records and good English com petencies. The application form is available on the Mamaself web site. The deadline for students who apply without EM grant is: 19 June 2010.
Instruction language is English for lectures.

IDS-FunMat project.

IDS-FunMat is an International Doctoral Programme in Functional Materials funded by the ERASMUS MUNDUS Programme of the European Union.
Our school offers scholarships for PhD projects in Functional Materials Science, carried out in co-supervision between universities from two different countries (see list of partners). In most projects an industry partner is also involved. The PhD candidates must spend at least 6 months in each university. The projects start around October and take 3-4 years.
The European Union finances each year a number of ERASMUS MUNDUS PhD scholarships in our school, and in addition we have PhD projects funded by other sources.

INTRODUCTION

International Graduate Program for Advanced Science (IGPAS) is an interdisciplinary graduate program in the Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University . It was established in October 2004 as the first international graduate program founded in Japanese national universities. IGPAS offers courses in English for international students who are eager to obtain master’s and doctoral degrees from the Graduate School of Science. It also aims to educate Japanese students to exert their abilities as internationally- active, professional scientists.

IGPAS has proudly reserved positions of Japanese government scholarship for its master’s students since its foundation, and in 2008, IGPAS-Super Doctoral Course (SDC) has been started for doctoral students jointly with the Institute for the International Advanced Research and Education (IIARE) of Tohoku University . Students of IGPAS-SDC benefit from fellowship by IIARE to promote world top-level, interdisciplinary research at the Graduate School of Science.

Prospective students will have excellent opportunities to study modern science and conduct cutting-edge research with top-level scientists currently working at Tohoku University .

PROGRAM DETAILS

IGPAS is a 5-year graduate program as the com bination of a 2-year master’s program and a 3-year doctoral program. Each student belongs to one of six departments, which are divided into three groups according to the GCOE programs:(i) Chemistry, (ii) Mathematics, Astronomy, and Physics, and (iii) Earth Science and Geophysics.

The academic year of IGPAS starts in October. The Graduate School of Science will admit at most 20 students each for the master’s and doctoral programs each year.

Step 1: Find faculty members in the field of your interest as candidates for your supervisor. Applications will not be accepted without the consent of at least one faculty member as a prospective supervisor. The prospective supervisors should be a professor, associate professor, or lecturer (senior assistant professor) affiliated to the Graduate School of Science. Scholarship Graduate Program at Vienne Graduate School of Finance

The Vienna Graduate School of Finance (VGSF) invites excellent students to apply for the PhD Program in Finance starting in fall 2010. Up to six scholarships will be offered to the best applicants.

The program is open for students from all countries with all academic specializations, provided they hold a Master degree or equivalent and have sufficient level of formal training. Students who are going to graduate soon (by June 2010) may apply, too. To participate in the selection process a candidate's application must be received by January 7, 2010.

The VGSF PhD program in Finance consists of two parts: rigorous coursework and work on the PhD thesis. The students attend courses covering all major topics in finance and analytical methods required for research. In particular, the courses focus on Corporate Finance, Asset Pricing and Quantitative Methods in Finance. In the past academic years students had the chance to attend courses taught by international scholars such as Tomas Björk, Christopher Hennessy, David Lando, Jacob Sagi, Rossen Valkanov, Jiang Wang and Toni Whited. Scholarship Graduate Program in the Czech republic

Programme Scholarship for foreign students supports foreign students from the third countries out of European Union who want to study at one of the universities in the South Moravian region in the Czech republic , in the Czech study programmes.

What is provided in the programme:

Scholarship (monthly 6000 Czech crown - approx. 220EUR) for the first study year - to cover basic living costs (if students achieves good study results during the first study year, they obtain scholarship straight from the university in the following years). There is no tuition fee for students attending study programs in Czech language.
Free administrative assistance and consultancy – help with university entrance exams procedure and during the first study year in the South Moravian region (diploma recognition, information service, visa, study matters etc.)

Who can apply:
Foreign students from the third countries out of European Union, who wish to study a follow-up master or Ph.D. study programs in Czech language, at partner universities in the South Moravian region of the Czech republic . Preferably in technical and natural science field of study.

How to apply:
The application includes two essential steps:

Application for study at a partner university in Brno
Application for scholarship to the South Moravian Centre for International Mobility

Final choice of scholarship holders makes independent Selection Committee, whose members are the vice-rectors of our partner universities. Selection is done from the group of applicants who have been accepted to the study at the university.

Czech language:
It is expected that the applicants have sufficient knowledge of Czech language to be able to start studying in Czech right after their arrival in Brno .

The applicants who receive scholarship can attend course of Czech language (free of charge) in Brno at the university for the period of the first academic year (13 weeks, 12 lessons weekly), including final exam of Czech language.

From the previous years of the programme:
The scholarship programme for foreign students has started since the academic year 2006/2007, so far there have been supported totally 70 students.

In the academic year there have been supported 14 foreign students. In the following academic year there were 22 scholarship holders of JCMM and at the same time 4 students from Bosnia and Herzegovina attended a project of five-month course of Czech language in Brno in order to continue their study at a local university. In the present academic year 2008/2009 there are 30 scholarship holders, who have been chosen out of 79 applicants.

The Offshoring Research Network (ORN) at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, is seeking to hire a Research Associate for a period of two years, starting Summer/Fall 2009. The Research Associate will be expected to carry out survey-based and/or case study-based research on offshoring, outsourcing and the globalization of services.

ORN multi-year surveys

The international ORN project was initiated in 2004 by the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at the Duke Fuqua School of Business. The ORN project conducts both quantitative, survey-based research and qualitative case studies. It solicits two major annual surveys.

The ORN Corporate Client Survey tracks the adoption of offshoring and outsourcing administrative and technical functions, e.g. IT, finance & accounting, software and product development, by client companies across industries, from pioneering early adopters to the majority adopters. It includes data e.g. on offshoring drivers, risks, location choices, delivery models, performance outcomes and future plans. Unlike other surveys, this survey tracks offshoring and outsourcing activities over time by discrete functional implementation projects. It also includes companies that only consider offshoring and even those that have not considered offshoring yet. In collaboration with research partners worldwide, the ORN survey has been extended year by year. It has been taken by more than 1,500 companies from the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Scandinavia, and Belgium, and it will include companies from Italy, Korea, Australia and other countries.

The ORN Service Provider Survey, which was launched in 2007 for the first time, investigates the service providers’ perspective of offshoring. It covers questions about service profiles, the choice of service location, client contracts and relationships, risks involved with providing services, the recruitment and management of talent, future plans and outsourcing trends, and many other aspects.

ORN case studies

Parallel to the collection and analysis of survey-based data, the ORN project also involves complementary case studies investigating not only companies’ various experiences with offshoring, but also their internal routines, processes and capabilities that differentiate early from late adopters of the new business practice as well as more and less successful offshoring companies. In particular, ORN research is focusing on companies offshoring higher-level, innovation-centered activities and processes. Taking a co-evolutional research perspective, the ORN project also investigates the emergence of new geographical knowledge clusters and institutions guiding offshoring/outsourc ing activities.

In addition to developing knowledge on companies’ offshoring practices, the project seeks to develop theoretical concepts and frameworks partly based on the cases, explaining the emergence, adoption, and diffusion of offshoring practices and underlying capabilities within and across companies, industries, and countries. Audiences of the research results include both business practitioners and academics. Although the candidate’s main focus will be on academic research, he/she will have to maintain a strong orientation towards the business implications of the research findings.

Job requirements

The Research Associate will work in close collaboration with the other members of the international ORN research team and will participate in all aspects of the research projects, including data collection and analysis, and crafting research papers. The candidate will participate in developing practitioners- oriented presentations and in writing Thought Leadership articles for the business community. He or she will also be involved in designing and running selected courses for MBA students and executive MBAs. In addition, he or she is expected to work together with our sponsoring organizations and partners, including PricewaterhouseCoop ers and The Conference Board, in conducting custom research and various other projects. Background and Aims of the Project

Substantial gains have been made in global health, including reductions in overall and

child mortality in developing countries. However, progress remains uneven and there are

growing differences in mortality, morbidity and disease burden rates according to

geographical region. For example, communicable diseases, maternal and perinatal

conditions, and micronutrient deficiencies cluster in the tropics and subtropics, and

contribute to delay the social and economic development. Improving the health and

livelihoods of the global poor could save millions of healthy life years, enhance equity

and alleviate poverty, and hence contribute to achieving the millennium development

goals (MDGs). Certain MDGs are addressed by global alliances and partnerships; e.g. the

control of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Fewer efforts are placed on the so-called

neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), e.g. helminth infections and zoonoses. The focus of

this project is on the epidemiology and control of NTDs in semi-arid and humid contexts

in Central and West Africa.

The goal of this proposal is to deepen our understanding of morbidity patterns and

transmission dynamics of NTDs in two eco-epidemiological settings of Africa,

and to study the effects of control interventions aiming at reducing the burden due to

NTDs. This will entail the development of methods and analytical tools for demographic

surveillance of a highly mobile population in Chad, and a rural sedentary population in

south-central Côte d’Ivoire. These demographic surveillance system (DSS) sites will

serve as platforms to monitor changes in morbidity patterns following locally-adapted

interventions.

5. Those who are currently enrolled in a degree program, or have just completed a degree program for less than one to two years will not be eligible to apply. Those who were a recipient of a Ford Foundation fellowship grant within the last two years prior to the application are also ineligible.

CONDITIONS OF THE AWARDS

1. The proposed research projects for the ASIA Fellows Awards can be carried out in only one participating country (except the applicant’s own) and under the following conditions:

a) No applicants can propose to conduct their research in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea or Taiwan.

b) Applicants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore cannot undertake research in each other’s countries.

c) Applicants from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan can only apply to conduct their research in Thailand, the ASF host country.

2. Any portion of the proposed project that will be undertaken in the applicant’s own country will not be funded under the ASIA Fellows Awards.

3. The proposed grant period must be between 6 to 9 months. Once awarded, a fellow is required to conduct research at the proposed host country throughout the grant period. Splitting of the grant period or conducting research in the applicant’s own country during the proposed grant period is not allowed under any circumstances.

4. While an applicant from South Asia or Southeast Asia may propose a research project in a country within his/her own region, preference is given to applicants who propose to conduct research in a region of Asia other than their own (e.g., an award to an Indian scholar or professional for research in China).

5. Applicants should not plan to conduct their research in a country with which their home country has a difficult diplomatic relationship because of the uncertainties of securing an affiliation and obtaining a research clearance and visa for a long-term stay.

6. It is preferable that invitation letter or e-mail to confirm affiliation from a host institution be obtained and submitted together with the application.

7. Fellowship awards are not for the purpose of completing requirements towards an academic degree (master’s thesis or doctoral dissertations).

Ⅱ. Terms of Fellowship

The scholarship covers a maximum of 24 months (2 years), from March 2010 to February 2012. Students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0/ 4.3 every semester to maintain fellowship eligibility.

Ⅲ. Scholarship Details

1) Tuition fee: The KT&G Foundation will provide tuition fee for Spring 2010 through Fall 2011 (up to 4 semesters).

2) Stipend: The KT&G Foundation will provide a monthly stipend of KRW 1,000,000(= USD 892) for up to 24 months.

IV. Obligations

1) Participation in a field trip, a roundtable conference prepared by the Foundation

2) Participation in events and activities upon request from the school or the foundation

3) Submission of a report on your life in Korea two months prior to your graduation and a copy of your Master’s thesis

4) KT&G Fellowship recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.3 scale in order to retain their scholarship. If they fail in this requirement at any time, their scholarship will be cancelled and they will be ineligible to receive it again in further semesters.

5) If a KT&G Fellowship recipient decides to withdraw from their program of study they must pay the KT&G Foundation the full amount of the scholarship received up to the time of withdrawal.

Scholarships and College Loan Selection criteria
Qualifications of the candidate.

Applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected.
* Preference to women candidates.
* Preference to applicants with lesser financial capacity.
* The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who have previously studied abroad.

Asian Graduate Student Fellowships 2010

The Asia Research Institute of NUS invites applications from citizens of Asian countries enrolled for a fulltime advanced degree at a university in an Asian country (except Singapore ) for consideration for the award of Asian Graduate Student Fellowships. These fellowships are offered to current graduate students doing their Master’s or PhD degrees and working in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Southeast Asian topics, and will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of three months. The aim of the fellowship is to enable scholars to make full use of the wide range of resources held in the libraries of NUS and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies . Scholars will be expected to commence on 3 May 2010, and to make a presentation on their work at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies at the end of July 2010.

Benefits:

The Office of Academic Exchange Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U. S. Department of State, is pleased to announce a new exchange program for undergraduate students-the 2010 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD)

The Global UGRAD Program provides scholarships for one semester or one academic year of U.S. Study in a NON-DEGREE Program. The goals of the program are to provide a diverse group of emerging student leaders, from non-elite and underrepresented groups in Indonesia and East Asia.

All global UGRAD Program participants will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the institution’s (US) existing curriculum to allow students ample opportunity for ongoing interaction with U.S. Faculty and student peers, and for exposure to U.S. academic and classroom culture..

To ensure that students succeed in their new academic environments, host institutions will offer tailored instruction on topics including academic research and writing, critical thinking, time management, note taking, and studying for and taking tests. Participants will live on campus with American peers.

Students will also be provided with opportunities to participate in up to ten hours of community service per semester. Additionally, an internship component will be offered to all academic-year participants during the academic component of the program. Internships will be related to each participant’s field of study and/or career plans.

Participants may be eligible for up to 4 weeks of intensive English Language instruction in the United States prior to the start of academic portion of their program.

Eligibility:

1/ Scholarships will be granted to students who currently are enrolled in S-1 degree programs only, and have completed their first semester and up to their firth semester of undergraduate study at an Indonesian university.

2/ Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.

3/ Applicants must have minimum Institutional TOEFL score of 500-score less than two years old. In some cases a personal interview by a fluent qualified Native English Speaker who can confirm that the nominee would be able to achieve that score when tested is acceptable. Candidates must also meet all the requirements of the institution where admission is being sought.

4/ Preference will be given to those who have had little or NO experience in the U.S. or outside of their home countries.

5/ Applications can be for either for one semester or two semesters based on nominee’s availability. No applications should be submitted for both one semester and full year programs.

6/ Applicants are required to return to Indonesia after the completion of the one or two semester program.

Applications are currently being considered for 16 fully funded scholarships (fees and stipend for 8 EU and 8 non-EU students) on the prestigious 2-year Erasmus-Mundus European Masters programme on Computer Vision and Robotics (VIBOT) between Heriot Watt University (UK), the Universite de Bourgogne (France) and the Universitat de Girona (Spain).

VIBOT is one of the European Union`s flagship Erasmus-Mundus courses. The key aim of VIBOT is to produce the next generation of leading engineering researchers to solve important future challenges in a broad range of engineering applications. Starting from a com prehensive coverage of the prerequisites in the field of digital imagery and basic image processing, the students will cover at specialized level all subjects of artificial vision applied to robotics, medical imagery and 3D vision.

This Masters programme will provide an unrivalled knowledge in computer vision and robotics applied to industrial problems and medical imagery. Moreover, the students will have also acquired a mobility, a broadmindedness and the language skills which constitute, in an age of globalization, a major asset for finding research work either in a public laboratory or in a private company.

VIBOT en com passes a broad spectrum of scientific and engineering research from fundamental theoretical results to applied engineering solutions that have strong industrial relevance. Individuals within the VIBOT research network are leading authorities on areas ranging from com puter vision, autonomous vehicles, statistical signal processing, robotics and image processing.

The Masters candidates will experience research cultures in three different European countries and will be able to draw on the expertise from leading experts in different disciplines and different nationalities. The students spend the first semester in Scotland , the second in Spain and the third in France . The fourth semester is reserved for the 5-month Masters research project at one of the host universities or in industry.

Selection Criteria
Admission to VIBOT is highly com petitive and based on academic excellence. Applicants should have a minimum of a BSc degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics or mathematics. The following interdisciplinary areas or “clusters” are offering scholarships:

1) The Changing Family in Asia (Research Leader: Prof Gavin Jones)
This cluster explores the dimensions of family change in the region, their causes and their implications. These dimensions include rising ages at marriage, declining size of the nuclear family, increase in one-person households and alternative family forms, changing gender roles within families, and changes in family structures. They are studied in the context of the changing political-economic structures and changing state/family roles in provision of services and support.

2) The Migration Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Brenda Yeoh) explores the issues arising from increased levels of human mobility in the region, both within and across national borders. Mobility of high-level professional and managerial personnel, labour migration, both documented and undocumented, and human trafficking all raise theoretical and methodological questions and major policy issues, as does the role of migration in urban change.

3) The Religion and Globalization Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Bryan Turner) explores the changing patterns of religious practice, belief and identity in recent times, particularly in Southeast Asia, China and South Asia. The title implies a particular interest in transnational and diasporic interactions, the engagement with modern technologies and values, and new global or ‘glocal’ forms of identity.

4) The Cultural Studies Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Chua Beng Huat) consciously challenges disciplinary boundaries to address new topics, issues and concerns thrown up by the rapid globalization of contemporary cultures. ARI is interested in new understandings of the everyday life cultural practices of contemporary Asia, as in adaptations of older patterns in literature, and the performing and graphic arts, in rapidly changing contemporary conditions.

5) The Southeast Asia-China Interactions Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Anthony Reid) will welcome students in two project areas: The Cold War in Asia, relating particularly to relations between the two Chinas (CCP and KMT) and the parties, movements and governments of Southeast Asia; and issues of heritage recovery and archaeology in Aceh and Sumatra more generally.

6) The Asian Cities Cluster (Research Leaders: Prof Heng Chye Kiang & Prof Chua Beng Huat) is housed in School of Design and Environment (SDE), Department of Architecture (NUS). This cluster focuses especially on cutting-edges areas of rapid change and the identity of Asia cities, notably including: the impact of rapid urbanization, adapting and conserving heritage to a changing urban environment, and urban environmental planning. It will build collaborative and interdisciplinary connections among the colleagues from the Humanities and Social Science faculties in NUS.

ARI is a university-level institute formed in July 2001 as one of the strategic initiatives of the NUS. The mission of the Institute is to produce and promote world-class research on Asia. ARI engages the social sciences and humanities broadly defined, and encourages especially multidisciplinary studies. Scholarship graduate program for Anglo-Helenic Doctoral Community

Scholarship fund of 90,000 euros over aperiod of three years. Scholarships
will be awarded to exceptional applicants to support their period of study.
Scholarships may take the form of support scholarships or fees only.
Candidates will be awarded scholarships for a period of three years – however,
annual renewal of funding will depend entirely on academic progress and contribution to
the Anglo-Hellenic Doctoral Community.

Entry Requirements

Before applying to become a member of the Anglo-Hellenic Doctoral
Community, candidates need to be sure that they have a keen personal
interest in the topic they will be researching - and an interest in the
process of research. They will need a strong academic background and the
motivation to pursue independent research for a period of 3 years.

For registration as a PhD student, candidates will need:

• A first degree equivalent to a UK 2:1 and above, i.e. GPA 3.2 or
better/ a GMAT score of 600 or above.

• A Master's degree with a significant research component in the Social
Sciences (and associated disciplines) or applied economics, with grades
at Merit and Distinctions levels.

• Evidence is also required that a candidate’s English proficiency is
adequate for high level academic study. Leading UK universities ask for
an IELTS balanced test score of at least 7.0. If candidates are unable
to take the IELTS then an IB TOEFL score of at least 100 may be
accepted. A Cambridge Proficiency Certificate in English (grade C) may
also be accepted. Oral language skills will also be assessed at interview

• Two References – one must be from someone who can vouch for academic
ability.

CREAM is an EC funded Initial Training Network of 13 partner organizations and 9 associated partner organizations from 9 European countries. The partners in CREAM represent the
main sectors involved in chemical risk assessment (industry, academia, regulatory authorities) and who are interested in exploring how mechanistic effect models can add value to the risk assessment process.
The overall aim of CREAM is to develop and experimentally validate a suite of mechanistic
effect models that are based on Good Modelling Practice. CREAM will provide world class training for the next generation of ecological modellers, emphasizing transparency and rigorous model evaluation as core elements of the modelling process.

We are looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: population ecology; ecotoxicology; ecological risk assessment; ecological modelling; programming.

Over the last two decades, we see new ways of funding and programming of
research and knowledge production. Large scale research programmes are
set up, characterized by collaboration between academia, industry and
societal actors. These programmes aim to develop knowledge which

close cooperation with a team of senior and junior researchers, you will
conduct research into the dynamics and effects of such large-scale
multi-actor research programmes. There will be a focus on programs in
the field of both climate adaptation and water research. The research is
carried out in cooperation with KWR Watercycle Research Institute, Delft
University of Technology and the Free University of Amsterdam. We expect
you to prepare a PhD thesis, based on this research.

Requirements:

You have a master’s degree in a relevant field, strong skills in
qualitative or quantitative research methods and an interest in science

The scholarship grantees shall take a preparatory course in the Japanese language and other subjects for approximately 7 months at the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai , situated in Osaka, Japan. Grantees shall live in the provided dormitory through the Program. The preparatory course is developed for people who have never learned Japanese language before.

Field of Study
We welcome students wishing to studying in the fields of: Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering and Natural Sciences.

*Students pursuing study areas that would contribute to his/her country or region will be given preference.
* Fields of study must be one of those available at Japanese universities. Practical training given by factories or companies is excluded.

Qualifications

Nationality:

(1) Japanese diplomatic missions concerned will select preliminary candidates from among applicants by means of a review of the documents submitted, in cooperation with the foreign governments concerned.

(2) Those who have been selected as the preliminary candidates will be recommended to Asian Youth Fellowship Screening Committee, Tokyo, Japan. The Committee will select grantees from among the preliminary candidates by means of an interview made in their respective countries by a mission member assigned and dispatched by the Committee.

(3) Final announcement will be provided by the Embassy of Japan in writing after Monbukagakusho’s approval to the decision by the AYF Screening Committee. The grantees of the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship for 2010 will be finally selected, on condition that they have completed the AYF preparatory course successfully, after university placement has been made.

AYF will provide the students with information on Japanese universities through the Program.

This modern University has ambitious plans for its future. Two main campuses in Cambridge and Chelmsford are being transformed with major capital investments. With an annual income of £120m, 25,500 students and 2,000 staff, we are a major force for higher education in the East of England.

The Ashcroft International Business School is offering a PhD studentship to work on the commercialisation and internationalisatio n of innovative companies in the East of England.

This scholarship will enable the successful applicant to develop a specific proposal to address this generic issue drawing on previous work carried out in this area by the supervisory team and the regional and international contacts with actors in the business support and development networks in Canada, Europe, China and India and agencies such as the European Commission, East of England International and the OECD.

The successful applicant will have a good (minimum 2:1) undergraduate degree in business, management or a related discipline and will have, or be near to completing a Masters degree. Experience of working in an entrepreneurial environment will be desirable, as will experience of living and working outside their country of birth. Willingness to travel internationally, including undertaking a research internship outside the UK, is essential. This is a full-time scholarship and the successful applicant will be expected to form part of a vibrant, busy research group based on our Cambridge campus, working with other researchers and research students to enhance our scholarly and publishing output in this area.

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) gives scholarship programs.

This is achieved by providing post-graduate scholarships for Indonesians to study in Australia.

Candidates :

Be an Indonesian citizen and not have permanent residence in Australia or New Zealand;
Not be married or engaged to a person who is eligible to hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residence;
Satisfy Australian Government requirements for international student entry to Australia (health, character etc);
Not hold a scholarship that would give similar benefits;
Not have held an Australian Government Scholarship in the 12 months preceding the application;
Be applying to commence a new course of study and not be seeking support through ADS for a course already commenced in Australia;
Be able to take up the scholarship in the year for which it is offered; and

International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) Fellowship Program

Deadline: 14 August 2009 for fellowship activities that will start after 1 January 2010.

Program objective

To develop human resources and enhance professional expertise in member countries in tropical forestry, tropical timber industries and related disciplines, with a view to promoting sustainable management of tropical forests, efficient utilization and processing of tropical timber, and better economic information on the international trade in tropical timber.

Eligible activities

1. Participation in international/ regional conferences, short-term training courses, training internships at industries, research and educational institutions, study tours, and lecture/demonstrate on tours;
2. Technical document preparation, publication and dissemination, such as manuals and monographs;
3. Small grants for post-graduate studies.

Award

The maximum amount for a fellowship is US$10,000. ITTO Fellowships provides tuition/training/ conference fees, transportation fees, daily subsistence allowance, book allowance and other allowances. For post-gradate studies, only a partial tuition fee or a small research grant can be provided. Approved Fellowships are non-transferable to other programs or institutions.

Eligibility

1. Only nationals of ITTO Member countries are eligible to apply.
2. Awards are to be made to individuals not to institutions.
3. Previous ITTO Fellowship awardees are not eligible to apply for another ITTO Fellowship within two years of receiving the first award and submitting to the Secretariat a final report on the activity for which the award was made.

Appraisal

Applications are appraised by a Fellowship Selection Panel, which meets during the sessions of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC) twice a year(*1). The Panel com prises six individuals, three from producer member countries and three from consumer member countries, and is chaired by the Vice Chair of the ITTC.

Priority areas

Based on the goals and cross-cutting strategies identified in the ITTO Yokohama Action Plan 2002-2006, eligible activities will aim at developing human resources and professional expertise in one or more of the following areas (in no priority order):

1. Improving transparency of the international tropical timber market;
2. Promoting tropical timber from sustainably managed sources;
3. Supporting activities to secure the tropical timber resources;
4. Promoting sustainable management of tropical forest resources;
5. Promoting increased and further processing of tropical timber from sustainable sources;
6. Improving industry's efficiency of processing and utilization of tropical timber from sustainable sources;
7. In any of the above areas (a-f), the following are relevant:
(i) Enhancing public relations, awareness and education;
(ii) Sharing information, knowledge and technology; and
(iii) Research and development.

Selection criteria

Fellowship applications will be assessed against the following selection criteria (in no priority order):

1. Consistency of the proposed activity with the Programs's objective and priority areas;
2. Qualifications of the applicant to undertake the proposed Fellowship activity;
3. The potential of the skills and knowledge acquired or advanced under the Fellowship activity to lead to wider applications and benefits nationally and internationally;
4. Reasonableness of costs in relation to the proposed Fellowship activity.

Additional consideration will be given to:

1. Geographic and gender balance;
2. Balance among the ITTO priority areas;
3. Competency in the language in which the training will be given, where applicable (eg courses, conferences, study tours).

The ITTO Fellowships are awarded mainly to nationals of developing countries. However, ITTO may award Fellowships to nationals of consumer developed countries when: (a) the activities for which the awards are made are carried out in Producer Member countries and the activities tend to benefit Producer Member countries; and/or (b) there is evidence of technology transfer for activities to be carried out in developed countries.

Deadline for receipt of the completed applications are:

14 August 2009 for fellowship activities that will start after 1 January 2010.

Asian Public Intellectuals (API) Fellowships Program

The API Fellowships are for those under 40 years of age, as of August 31, 2009.
The project may be carried out for a minimum of four (4) months to a maximum
of twelve (12) months. Up to two (2) API Participating Countries may be visited.

In addition to the general eligibility above, the applicants for the API Fellowships must:
Be under the age of 40 as of August 31, 2009 (exceptions may be made);
Have the ability and desire to engage in research projects and/or professional activities
in the Participating Countries other than the applicant's native or country of residence;
Have a strong potential to contribute to their field in the future; - Undertake the proposed
research projects and/or professional activities for a consecutive period of between four (4)
and twelve (12) months (Note: The fellowship period must be continuous.); and
Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities in up to two (2) of the
Participating Countries, but in a country(ies) other than the applicant's native country or
country of residence.

What is timing?

Position Description:

Ph.D. Research Assistantship in the Environmental Resources and Policy program
at Southern Illinois University.

We are looking for a highly motivated graduate student at the PhD level to join
a collaborative NSF project looking at the interface between renewable energy
policy and economics, agroecosystems management, and ecosystem services,
with a particular focus on water quality and carbon. The research will involve economic
and systems modeling of agroecosystems, and the analysis of farmer’s decisions in the
bioeconomy from a variety of perspectives (economic, geographic, environmental) ,
and will be conducted by an interdisciplinary team. Quantitative aptitude,
an interest in economics and policy, and well developed verbal and written skills are necessary.
Experience with multivariate or spatial statistics preferred.

The project includes a good amount of research flexibility, and candidates interested in
the development of student-driven research questions are welcomed.

The student will enroll in the ER&P Ph.D. program. The focus of the program is addressing
sustainability issues -- meeting the economic needs of the present while maintaining the natural
capital required to meet the economic and environmental needs of the future. To this end,
the ER&P Ph.D. provides advanced inter-disciplinary training and research on physical, biological,
and social processes responsible for natural resource and environmental problems facing contemporary society.

The students will be expected to present the results of their research at regional and national
meetings and to prepare manuscripts of these findings for publication in the peer-reviewed literature.

The assistantship comes with a competitive stipend and covers the cost of tuition and fees.
Start date: Fall semester 2009.

In General, Candidates must :

* Be an Indonesian citizen and not have permanent residence in Australia or New Zealand;
* Not be married or engaged to a person who is eligible to hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residence;
* Satisfy Australian Government requirements for international student entry to Australia (health, character etc);
* Not hold a scholarship that would give similar benefits;
* Not have held an Australian Government Scholarship in the 12 months preceding the application;
* Be applying to commence a new course of study and not be seeking support through ADS for a course already commenced in Australia;
* Be able to take up the scholarship in the year for which it is offered; and
* Satisfy the admission requirements of the Australian tertiary institution in which the course is to be undertaken.

Candidates requirements :

* Be applying for courses that fall within the four areas of development priority;
* Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.9 (on a scale of maximum 4.0) and an English language proficiency of at least 5.0 in IELTS (or 500 in Institutional TOEFL or equivent). The IELTS or TOEFL result must be current (a test result obtained in 2008 or 2009 will be considered current);

Number of Awards and Study Options

The number of ADS awards each year will depend on Australian government budget appropriations. In the 2009/2010 ADS cycle, 300 ADS scholarships are available for commencement in 2010/2011. The scholarships are allocated as follows:

* 2/3 of all awards will be offered to applicants from the public sector category;
* 1/3 of all awards will be offered to applicants from the open category;
* Up to 50% of awards overall will be offered to applicants from the Targeted Category;
* Up to 30% of all awards will be offered to applicants from Geographic Focus Areas.The geographic focus will include East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua, West Papua, and Aceh;;

Graduate scholarship at AEU University

THERE ARE AN OPPRORTUNITY FOR INDONESIAN TALENTED SCHOLAR FOR GRADUATE DEGREE AT UNITED ARAB EMIRATES UNIVERSITY

I. INFORMATION

1. Ph. D. students must be full time for all students.
2. All Ph.D. students will be supported by a scholarship that will include:

Tax free stipend of 10,000 AED monthly
Furnished housing provided by university
Health insurance for student, spouse and up to three children
Textbooks will be provided
Round trip air tickets to home country for student, spouse and up to three children(for expatriate students) annually.
Tuition will be charged for the Ph.D. program on a credit hour basis and all admitted students will be eligible to receive sponsorships of tuition. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program who do not receive external sponsorships will be eligible for University sponsorship of tuition charges.

4. The expected duration of the Ph.D. program will be 3-4 years post Bachelor’s degree or 2-3 years post Master’s degree
5. The program will consist of at least one year’s graduate level course work, passing of a qualifying examination and successful completion of a dissertation.
6. The host department prepare the exact nature of a Ph.D. students’ program and approved by the Board of Graduate Research Studies.
7. Study available include all areas currently presented by the faculties and colleges at UAEU. Discipline field names will be used such as chemical engineering, physics, history, etc.

II.REQUIREMENTS
1. Minimum GPA Expectation:

3.5 out of 4.0 for final 60 credit hours of Bachelor degree.
3.5 out of 4.0 for Masters Course work of Master degree
Minimum TOEFL score – 575 expected

3. GRE scores will be considered; GMAT scores for Business will be considered. These scores are not required but will strengthen the application.
4. Two letters of recommendation are required
5. After receipt of the completed application form and supporting information as outlined in the next section, an application proposal will be prepared by host department and will require the approval of the department chair and college dean. This proposal will include a statement of personal goals from the candidate and a description of the proposal program of work.
6. The proposal will be considered by the Board of Graduate Research Studies and a recommendation made to the Provost who will make the final decision as to acceptance into the program.
7. Each of the following will be considered in reaching a decision whether or not to approve enrollment and the proposed course of study:

Candidates suitability, academic achievements and potential
Suitability and research record of supervisor and, if applicable, co-supervisor(s)
Suitability and research record of thesis advisory committee membership
Department facilities or their equivalent
Proposed coursework, including learning outcome goals
Proposed thesis topic or general area of research(exact topic may be approved later)
Eligibility and admission to the Ph.D. program are independent of the applicant’s tuition sponsorship.
